The Latest Updates On I-65 and I-59/20 Lane Closures

The Alabama Department of Transportation will close several lanes of traffic along I-65 and I-59/20 this week.

BIRMINGHAM, AL - As construction continues in Birmingham to improve the I-59/20 and I-65 Interchanges, the Alabama Department of Transportation says drivers should expect delays this week. ALDOT reports there will be intermittent lane closures and ramp closures this week on I-59/20 Southbound, and I-65 Northbound and Southbound.

According to a statement by ALDOT issued Monday, the following actions will be taken in the coming week:

  • A single left lane closure on I-65 Southbound between 3rd Avenue South and the Green Springs Avenue exit Monday, August 13th, at 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. Thursday, August 16th.
  • The I-59/20 SB exit ramp to Carraway Blvd. will be closed each night this week, Monday, August 13th through Friday, August 17th, from 11 p.m. until 5 a.m.
  • Carraway Blvd. will be closed between 12th Avenue North and Richard Arrington Jr. Blvd. each night, Tuesday, August 14th through Thursday, August 16th from 9 p.m. until 5 a.m.

This work is a part of Phase II and Phase III of the I-59/20 Central Business District (CBD) Interchange and Bridge Replacement Project.
