Local Students Win National Contest

How Best to Help During International Disasters

With hurricane season approaching, the water shortage in South Africa and intensified weather in general, there are countless opportunities to help those in need, especially immediately following a disaster. To help educate about the best ways to help, in particular surrounding disasters that happen overseas, the USAID Center for International Disaster Information (CIDI) organizes a national public service announcement contest aimed at college students across the country. Students submit public service announcements (PSAs) that demonstrate why monetary donations are the most effective way to support international disaster relief. Through the contest, students learn donation best practices and help convey why β€œCash Is Best” in assisting aid groups responding to disasters.

Local winner, Katie Moston, Taylor Silva, and Anna Loncar from Alabama University won second place in the infographic category.
