🌱 Security At City Walk BHAM + Fatal Shooting Ruled Justifiable

Here are the top three stories today in Birmingham:

  1. If you have recently walked through City Walk BHAM, you may have noticed that the security cameras are much more noticeable than before., this is all by design. The big blue lights and call boxes are meant to stand out and provide an extra deterrent for crime on the City Walk. With nearly 200 cameras throughout the walk, along with security staff that also patrols the walk, the city is proving that they are dedicated to keeping the community safe at one of the newer amenities.   2. This past Thursday, Birmingham Fire & Rescue responded to a home in east Birmingham and rescued one person that was still inside. The incident occurred on the 400 block of 87th Street South early in the evening Thursday; the cause of the fire have not been released at this time. It was reported that there were no other occupants in the one-story home at the time of the fire. (AL.com)
  3. This past Thursday, the Jefferson County District Attorney's Office ruled there will be no charges filed for the Jun. 8 shooting that took the life of Demetrius Duante Harris. Officers were dispatched to a small apartment building around 11:45 p.m. in the 1600 block of 18th Place North, where they found Harris suffering from a gunshot wound which ended up being fatal; shortly after, police received a call of a man suffering from a gunshot injury at a nearby gas station. It was later discovered that the two incidents were related, as the two engaged in an argument that resulted in an exchange of gunfire. It was determined that the case was justifiable. (AL.com)
