Here are the top three stories today in Birmingham:

  1. A 29-year old man shot to death in Woodlawn on Wednesday afternoon has now been identified. On Thursday, the Jefferson County Coroner's Office identified the deceased as Anthony James Embry. Around 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, officers responded to a report of multiple shots fired in the 900 block of 52nd Way North and found Embry inside one of the units dead from a gunshot wound. There is no suspect at this time and the police are hoping people in the neighborhood will give them information. (AL.com)
  2. Employee vehicles at the Amazon and FedEx distribution centers in nearby Bessemer were broken into early Tuesday morning. Bessemer police report that more than 30 employee vehicles had items stolen including purses, cell phones, credit cards, and guns. Most of the car windows were broken by the burglars though some of the vehicles were left open. The suspects are believed to have been driving a light-colored Dodge Challenger. (AL.com)
  3. The A.G. Gaston Center for Entrepreneurship will be part of a new mixed-use development called "The Tower of Uptown" planned for downtown Birmingham. The Center for Entrepreneurship will be a minority coworking space that will feature office space, networking, coaching, and investment opportunities for minority entrepreneurs. Riddle Property Group, the developer, plans to have restaurants, retail, condominiums, a hotel, and a medical building at the site. (Birmingham Times)

  • The University of Alabama at Birmingham Sports and Exercise Medicine team is hosting the first annual Robert A. Ferguson Endowed Lecture Series: A Conference about Running Medicine on Saturday, Jun. 10 from 9:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. at the UAB Hill Student Center. Runners will discover how to avoid injuries and improve their performance. Registration for the event is $20 and you can sign up here. (University of Alabama At Birmingham)
  • There are plenty of exciting live music concerts coming to Birmingham in June. Rock superstars The Foo Fighters play Oak Mountain Amphitheater on Friday, Jun. 16. Folk Rock legend James Taylor hits the Oak Mountain Amphitheater on Sunday, Jun. 18, Tori Amos is at the Alabama Theatre on Thursday, Jun. 22 and country superstar Jason Isbell plays two nights at the Avondale Brewing Company on Jun. 23 and Jun. 24.   • The Terrific Theater group has purchased a building downtown that will serve as their new home. The non-profit group has been producing plays and musicals in Birmingham for almost 40 years. The new location is on 5th Avenue North and is expected to open in 2024. (Bham Now)
