Here are the top three stories in Birmingham today:

  1. On Monday, Jun. 5, at 5:30 a.m., two men and a woman stole four pots of flowers in the Solomon’s Temple Faith Church parking lot. Pastor CW Clay is devastated that anyone would steal from a church. Police are continuing to investigate the theft that was captured by security cameras, which show the license plate number of the vehicle the suspects used. (WVTM13 Birmingham)
  2. Urban Community Montessori private school in the Titusville neighborhood is serving mostly black and brown families in Birmingham and is the only Montessori school within the city limits. Courtney Davis started this private school two years ago in order to have a safe place for students to protect them from the challenges that they may face in a public school setting. With a student body of 19 students, the tuition is very accessible to low-income families due to the sliding scale and accommodations. (WBHM)
  3. The City of Birmingham is commending the Woodlawn Neighborhood Association for receiving the Neighborhood of the Year Award at the NUSA convention. The association received the award for its work in litter and trash abatement. The litter and trash program consists of four parts, starting with a "meet up to clean up." From there, the program includes participation in a smart trash can pilot program, the creation of a committee to handle illegal dumping, and the transformation of an alley into an outdoor art gallery.
