Tornado Warning Issued In Jefferson, Shelby Counties

The National Weather Service has issued a tornado warning for the Birmingham metro until 4:15 p.m.

BIRMINGHAM, AL β€” A tornado warning has been issued by the National Weather Service for south Tuscaloosa, north Shelby, northeast Bibb and southern Jefferson counties until 4:15 p.m.

The storm is located near West Blocton in Bibb County and moving northeast toward McCalla, Hoover and Helena.

The NWS in Birmingham issued the following alert on social media around 3 p.m.:

"Heads up to the Birmingham metro: a storm with a history of producing tornadoes will be arriving in the next hour or two! Be prepared to take shelter if a warning is issued."

Storm shelters throughout Shelby County are now open, according to the Shelby County Sheriff's Office.
