BIRMINGHAM, AL β€” A wind advisory is in effect for most of Alabama Wednesday night through early Thursday afternoon. The National Weather Service in Birmingham says occasional gusts of 30-40 mph are possible.

A cold front is also expected to sweep through Alabama in the next 48 hours ahead of a clear and mild weekend, according to the NWS.

"Winds will increase quite a bit this evening as the front passes through the region," the NWS said Wednesday morning. "Make sure to secure any loose outdoor items or decorations!"

Meteorologist James Spann said clouds will increase across Alabama later today ahead of what he refers to as a "dynamic weather system" that will bring rain back to the state late Wednesday night.

"The day will also be windy; west winds will average 10-20 mph, with gusts to 25 mph," Spann said. "Temperatures will hover in the low 60s much of the day, and the wind will make it feel cooler."
