Woman Killed In Vehicle Collision On Highway 79

A 61-year-old female was headed north on Hwy 79 when her vehicle crossed completely into the south bound lane and struck a pickup truck.

BIRMINGHAM, AL - The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office is investigating a fatal traffic incident that occurred on Highway 79 Monday. Just after 10 a.m., deputies were notified of a two vehicle accident on Highway 79 near Higginbotham Rd.

Witnesses reported a passenger vehicle driven by a 61-year-old female was headed north on Hwy 79, when it crossed completely into the south bound lane and struck a pickup truck head on that was traveling southbound on Hwy 79.

The driver of the passenger vehicle was pronounced dead on scene. The 30-year-old male driver of the truck and three passengers were transported to UAB Hospital with what are believed non-life threatening injuries.
