  1. Following Alabama's statewide reduction in grocery taxes, in a City Council meeting on Monday, the City of Hoover is considering reducing the city’s sales tax on groceries. Council members are considering lowering the tax from the current 3.5 percent tax to a 3 percent tax. Some believe that the cut is not a meaningful enough reduction to help their grocery bill, while others note that any reduction can help during a time of high inflation. The reduction will be voted on at the next council meeting on Oct. 2. (Alabama's News Leader)
  2. On Tuesday, a Birmingham man was charged after being found with a juvenile female runaway from Hoover. Last week, the Hoover Police Department received a report of a 12-year-old female runaway and began an investigation for the child after a tip that she may have been with an adult male she met online. After locating the child, Hoover police determined the male suspect had engaged in sexual acts with the child, at which case he was taken into custody and transported to the Hoover City Jail. The investigation remains ongoing, and the suspect remains in custody without bond. (Hoover (AL) Police Department via Facebook)
  3. On Monday, Mayor Frank Brocato announced that he will be hiring a municipal executive from Orange Beach to serve as Hoover’s next city administrator. Brocato will succeed Allan Rice, who held the post for more than six years until he was placed on administrative leave in June. Brocato chose Grimes from over 50 applicants and will start in the new role around the beginning of November. (Hoover Sun)
