🌱 School Board Approves Supt. Salary + Nursing Apprenticeship Program

  1. On Tuesday evening, the Hoover Board of Education approved a three-year contract with an annual salary of $230,000 for incoming Superintendent Kevin Maddox. Before joining Hoover schools, Maddox was an assistant superintendent for the Homewood Board of Education since 2012. Also, as part of the budget meeting, the board approved a $231 million budget for fiscal year 2024 β€” 3 percent less than the $238 million budget in fiscal year 2023. (Hoover Sun)
  2. The Alabama Community College System (ACCS) nursing apprenticeship, which began in March 2022 to address increasing nursing vacancies across the state, has been steadily increasing. New data from the ACCS estimates around 400 nursing apprentices across 17 colleges have served with nurses at more than 60 health care facilities across Alabama. Up the road at Wallace State Community College, the apprenticeship program began in January 2023 and since then, over 100 current nursing students have expressed interest in applying to the program this upcoming January.   3. It was announced yesterday that Hoover High School student Bradley Shaw made the list of USA TODAY High School Sports Awards' watch list for Defensive Football Player of the Year. The initial list includes 50 current student-athletes, who were selected based on season-wide performance, state championships, and any other state, regional, or national recognition. Shaw is a current senior linebacker for the team. (Marco News)

  • Mark your calendars: There are some amazing festivals and fairs coming to Hoover this fall. On Oct. 5, don't miss "Taste of Hoover" at Aldridge Gardens, where you can sample the best local bites. On Oct. 7, you can stop by the "Bluff Park Art Show" at the Community Park for work made by artists across the state. On Nov. 5, attend the "Moss Rock Festival," featuring live music and a beer garden. (AL.com)
