Here are the top three stories today in Mountain Brook:

  1. The Alabama 2023 reading test results are in with 22 percent of second-grade students unable to read at their current grade level. Mountain Brook City schools were responsible for three percent of those students, Vestavia Hills City schools were responsible for four percent, and Birmingham City was responsible for forty-five percent. In order to move on to the next grade, the students must be able to read at a third-grade level by the end of the next school year. (AL.com)

Qualifications include a filed statement of candidacy and a signed petition by at least 100 qualified electors. Mike Bolin, the Alabama Supreme Court Justice is the only one to announce plans to run, and no others have filed the candidate paperwork. (Hoover Sun)
