Here are the top four stories in Mountain Brook today:

  1. Mountain Brook players have 'high hopes' for this season's baseball team, which made it to the second round of class 6A playoffs last year. Many of the same players are returning this year, which will include area play with Homewood and Shades Valley, and an event in Florida. (Village Living)
  2. Mountain Brook softball coach Heather McGuirk is looking forward to bringing the team one step further this year, hopefully making it back to regionals like the team did last season for the first time since 2014. Said McGurik, β€œthe excitement around the sport of softball in Mountain Brook, it’s been incredible.” (Village Living)
  3. Jefferson County Commission Chair Jimmie Stephens said that he "can't see" giving $2.5 million to Birmingham Southern College. It's a relatively small amount compared to the overall $37 million the college is pursuing from the city and state governments. (AL.com)
  4. Dennis Washington, a meteorologist for the local TV station WBRC Fox 6, has passed away at 49 from leukemia. He was a meteorologist at the channel for 18 years. β€œIn the tough, high pressured world of local television news, Dennis was a calm, steady, reassuring voice with a smile that never left,” wrote Rick Karle from WVTM 13 about him.
