  1. Heather Fitch, a languages teacher at Mountain Brook High School, is stepping down as the sponsor of the Mountain Brook Dorians dance group after 20 years in the role, at the end of this school year. She described the dance team as "truly a family of people who support one another," and "a group of girls that represent the school and community first by supporting athletics." (Village Living)
  2. A "36-mile connected loop of trails in the greater Birmingham area" is set to be built within the next 15 years, in what will ultimately be more than 700 miles of interconnected trails in Jefferson County. The loop, described as a "game changer" by Carolyn Buck, director of the Red Rock Trail System, would Red Mountain and Ruffner Mountain. (Village Living)
  3. Staff Sgt. Taylor Mitchell, 30, from Mountain Brook, was one of the nine soldiers killed in a helicopter crash in Kentucky on March 29. He had "served in Germany and later served in Texas and Kansas in various health care and flight paramedic roles," according to the 101st Airborne Division. (WVTM 13)
