Here are the top three stories today in Mountain Brook:

  1. The City of Mountain Brook recently began a foundation to support first responders. Similar foundations already exist in Vestavia Hills, Hoover and Homewood. It had been talked about in Mountain Brook before the pandemic but got put on hold until now. The foundation will likely give out grants in the $3,000 to $5,000 range, although details are still being worked out. (Village Living)
  2. Mountain Brook High School senior Zach Touger is excited to pursue a career in broadcast journalism, after learning skills inside and outside of the classroom. He's planning to major in communications at the University of California Santa Barbara, with a minor in Spanish. (Village Living)
  3. The Alabama House of Representatives passed a general funding bill last week. Mountain Brook Rep. David Faulkner also unanimously passed a bill that would "rename the National Foundation in the Code of Alabama 1975, to reflect its current name, the March of Dimes Inc."
