  1. The U.S. economy is looking strong, and despite talk of a recession one isn't projected for the next year, an official with the Federal Reserve bank of Atlanta's Birmingham branch said at an economic summit at the Hoover Public Library on Thursday. (Village Living)

Civil rights groups are suing Jefferson County for allegedly diluting the power of Black voters in the area, based on how Jefferson County Commission districts were drawn up in the latest redistricting cycle. Two out of five districts are majority-Black while the other three are majority white. (AL.com)
  3. Birmingham-Southern College will stay open next year, with college officials announcing they have secured $46 million from private donors. Their goal is to reach an endowment $200 million by 2026. (WVTM 13)
