- After serving 27 years in prison for forgery, Alabama football star Ramzee Robinson has turned over a new leaf - helping the recently incarcerated find a new life. For two years, Robinson has been on parole but recently he became a board member for Alabama Appleseed; a nonprofit helping recently incarcerated inmates. The NFL supports Robinson in his journey and even donated $300 million to local organizations nationwide, including Alabama Appleseed. (WKRG)
- Two Alabama high school students from nearby Shelby County won the U.S. Congress Congressional Gold Medal during the 2023 Gold Medal Summit. To win the award, students must have at least 200 personal development hours, 200 physical fitness hours, and 400 public service hours and embark on a five-day/four-night expedition/exploration. This is the U.S. Congress' highest honor bestowed on young people. (Shelby County Reporter)
- A New Orleans-based pizza chain has plans to expand its franchise to the Birmingham area. Fat Boy's Pizza serves 16-inch pizza slices throughout three southern states, and Alabama is likely the fourth. According to a press release, the chain looks at areas like Mountain Brook, Meadowbrook, Cullman, Homewood, Pelham, Vestavia Hills, and Hoover. (Birmingham Business Journal)
