Bulls At Home This Weekend Making Run At Playoffs

The Birmingham Bulls have won 10 of their last 12 games, and are close to making the SPHL playoffs.

PELHAM, AL - Don't look now, but the Birmingham Bulls have turned into playoff contenders, after winning 10 of their last 12 games, including a weekend sweep of Pensacola. The Bulls are just one point back of Roanoke for the last playoff spot. The Bulls will play at Evansville Friday before hosting Roanoke Saturday at the Pelham Civic Complex at 7 p.m.

Birmingham has made an impressive run, after spending much of the season in last place. The Bulls are 14-10-1 at home, which has helped their run.

Another factor in the Bulls recent hot streak has been the play of Craig Simchuk. Simchuk was named the Southern Professional Hockey League Player of the Week for March 5-11. Simchuk scored three goals, including one game-winner, and added an assist as Birmingham swept a pair of games from second place Pensacola to extend their winning streak to four games and move to within one point of the final playoff spot.

On Friday, the Winnipeg, MB native scored a power play goal and assisted on the clinching empty-netter as the Bulls doubled-up Pensacola, 6-3. The following night, Simchuk scored two power play goals, including the game-winner 1:24 into overtime, as Birmingham downed the Ice Flyers 2-1.
