Here are the top three stories in Phoenix today:

  1. Thieves in north Phoenix used a tow truck to steal a new GMC Sierra Denali overnight from a resident's driveway, an act caught on a neighbor's doorbell camera. The stolen vehicle, owned by Jimmy Juber, was found the next day severely stripped near 35th Avenue and Buckeye Road, with personal sentimental items inside, like a U.S. Army shovel from his late father and a childhood wagon, now lost forever. Phoenix police are currently investigating the theft, noting similarities to previous cases where tow trucks were used to steal vehicles and disable OnStar systems. (Arizona's Family)
  2. In Phoenix on Sunday, a 36-year-old hiker faced heat-related distress while trekking South Mountain in the early afternoon. A group of fellow hikers assisted her descent and took her to the San Juan exit gate, where paramedics assessed her condition. Though firefighters were on standby, the woman declined hospitalization and they resumed their duties. (KTAR.com)
  3. Starting Oct. 1, Arizona will launch a new housing voucher program with $113 million from the Department of Housing and Urban Development, targeting low-income families in Maricopa County amidst rising evictions and soaring rent prices. Recent data revealed a 12 percent nationwide rent hike and a notable decline in voucher usage, prompting the increased funding. With metro Phoenix's median rent surpassing the national average at over $2,100, experts forecast no immediate relief, highlighting an established high-pricing trend in the region.
