Little Medical School® Comes to North Phoenix-Scottsdale & Cave Creek

STEM Veterinary Camps for Kids

The Holland Center will transform into a “little medical school” this summer for kids grades K-5 interested in veterinary care for dogs or horses. The five-day camp for dogs starts June 10 from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. each day, and the five-day camp for equine starts July 15 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. each day. Both camps will be held indoors at The Holland Center’s modern community facility at 34250 N. 60th Street, Scottsdale.

After “adopting” and naming their very own plush puppy or horse, students will roleplay the key responsibilities of a veterinarian using real medical instruments, and participate in interactive demonstrations, crafts, and games.

In the dog veterinarian camp, students will learn how to properly perform a nose-to-tail exam, sew stitches, remove ticks, make healthy treats, understand proper animal nutrition & hydration, and more. Equine students will learn the anatomy and maintenance of a horse, basic horse nutrition, riding styles, gaits, and more. Students will then celebrate graduation with their families and receive a personalized diploma.

Tuition for each camp is $285 and includes all in-class and take-home supplies, plus expert instruction by the pros from Little Medical School® using curriculum written by board certified physicians and educators. The small class sizes also ensure a low teacher-student ratio for personalized attention and focused interaction. Registration is required at www.hollandcenter.org.

“We are keenly aware of the veterinarian shortages in the industry,” said Jennifer Rosvall, Executive Director of The Holland Center. “We hope these learning experiences are one small step in the right direction for sparking interest in this field when kids are most impressionable.”

Little Medical School® (LMS) is the pioneer and leading developer of STEM-accredited, hands-on interactive programs for children to explore careers in medicine. Whether utilizing Science to understand anatomy, Technology to better utilize patient information, Engineering to develop solutions to complex medical issues, and Math to calculate the proper dose of medication, health and STEM are inseparable. The Holland Center’s ongoing partnership with LMS will continue to bring these learning experiences to the Desert Foothills region with after-school and summer camp programming.

“As our population continues to age, the need for skilled health professionals is increasing,” said Rosvall. “Our partnership with Little Medical School strives to be a part of the solution to this problem by teaching children how fun the world of healthcare can be.”
