Obituary: Betty L. Rhone

She will be remembered by many for her unwavering support and guidance.

Obituary was published and funeral arrangements were entrusted to the care and direction of the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home and Crematory.

Betty L. Rhone

Age 97, of Shorewood, IL and formerly of Huntingdon County, Pennsylvania, passed from this life, Saturday evening, August 10, 2024.

Betty was born on July 5, 1927 in Ardenheim, Pennsylvania, the daughter of Olive (Hooper) and Ralph Myers. She attended grade school in a one room school house and graduated from Huntingdon Area High School with the class of 1945. She had resided in Pennsylvania until she moved to Sun City, Arizona in 1992, where she lived the next 30 years of her life, enjoying her community and becoming a super fan of the Phoenix Suns basketball team. Betty left the southwest two and a half years ago to be near family in Illinois.

Surviving are her grandsons, Matt (Lisa) Rhone and Chris (Anca) Rhone; great- grandchildren, Kiersten, James, Katrina, Jaden and Sophie; brother, Ralph “Homer” Myers as well as several generations of nieces and nephews.

Betty is preceded in death by her parents; two sons, James Rhone and Dann Rhone; and her siblings, Beulah Kyper, Mary Crone and Terry Myers.

Betty had been employed years ago as a caretaker at the Milton Hershey School in Pennsylvania where she found her niche guiding and supporting many youth throughout her time there. For those wishing to remember Betty, memorial donations in her name can be directed to the Milton Hershey School, P.O. Box 830, Hershey, PA 17033-0830

Graveside committal prayers and remembrances of Betty will begin at 1 p.m. CST on Saturday, August 17, 2024 at St. Matthew Lutheran Cemetery on 127th Street (1/4 mile E of I-355) in Lemont, Illinois. All attending are asked to be at the cemetery by 12:45 p.m. CST.
