Alameda Firefighters Battle Park Fire

Some 3 weeks after the start of the Park Fire, local firefighters and their equipment are still deployed.

ALAMEDA, CA — The Park Fire started three weeks ago Wednesday. Although it has fallen out of the headlines, it is still burning and firefighters continue their efforts to save homes and expand a containment line around the massive site.

The flames have now burned ‎429,262 acres and it is 39 percent contained, according to Tuesday morning's update from CalFire. Evacuation orders or warnings remain in effect for residents in three counties.

Among the firefighters pulling Herculean shifts in the battle are four members of the Alameda Fire Department who are members of Strike Team 2807A, which is part of the OES Mutual Aid Program. Another Alameda Firefighter is deployed to the Park Fire as a Heavy Equipment Boss.

In addition to the Park Fire team, a sixth AFD member is deployed to a fire near Yakima, Washington as a Public Information Officer assigned to California Interagency Incident Management Team 14.

"Throughout this fire season, AFD has been constantly providing Mutual Aid resources to various incidents while also maintaining full staffing within the City of Alameda," according to the fire department. "Thank you to our Alameda Firefighters for answering not only the call to assist our neighbors, but also continuing our commitment to our Alameda City community."
