SANTA CRUZ, CA — Police in Santa Cruz have arrested a man on suspicion of a fatal stabbing that occurred last week, the department said Monday.

On Friday, police were sent to the 1200 block of Branciforte Drive in the George Washington Memorial Grove area just before noon on a report of a stabbing. A male was discovered suffering from at least one stab wound and eventually died at the hospital.

That same day, investigators arrested Joseph Young on suspicion of murder. Detectives allege that Young and the decedent were acquaintances and were both at the park. The two men allegedly got into a disagreement and the victim was stabbed.

"This was not a random act of violence, and the victim in this case was targeted due to their prior negative relationship with Mr. Young," police allege.

The identity of the stabbing victim has not yet been released.
