Police Activity Prompts Brief Lockdown at Alameda Schools

Reports of an incident in the surrounding area led to the lockdown.

A brief lockdown was implemented at several Alameda schools today. The shelter in place, which lasted under 15 minutes, affected Ruby Bridge Elementary, Encinal High School, Paden Elementary, Island High School, the Alameda Adult School, WCDC, Academy of Alameda, and CLCS. It was lifted just before 3:00 p.m. according to a spokeswoman for the Alameda Unified School District.

Parents were sent the following notification about the incident:

At about 2:45 this afternoon, the Alameda Police Department put our school into “shelter in place,” due to reports of an incident in the surrounding neighborhood. Other schools in the area were also told to shelter in place. Teachers and staff responded immediately, and all students and staff were safe. The police lifted the shelter in place at all the schools around 3:00 pm.

At this time it appears students and staff were in no danger during this incident.
