ARCADIA, CA — Star Students are found in classrooms, on concert and theater stages and at debate lecterns, and out in the community doing good things to make life better for all of us.

Here at Patch, we've launched an initiative to help recognize Star Students, and we’re working to tell the stories of these outstanding kids to their neighbors.

Why do you believe the star local student should be recognized?

Jessie isn’t only an honors student. Jessie is tremendously involved in community and leadership. Through her own personal struggles of having her mother diagnosed with stage four cancer and dying shortly after she still managed to continue to strive forward. Jessie is always the first to offer to help and despite what she’s personally going through she’s there for anyone. Jessie started taking college courses when she was 13 as a dual enrollment student. She shortly joined the honor society where she became not only the chapter president, but also regional president. Jessie’s mother was her biggest supporter. As her mother was diagnosed and suffering with cancer her mother thought it was important that Jessie continue to focus on her education and her future. Her mother encouraged her not to let her mother's struggles set her back and become her struggles. Jessie is currently in the process of waiting for universities to determine if she’s a suitable candidate. She is a true inspiration and has an amazing work ethic. She has a heart of gold and is very deserving of recognition and all great things in life.
