Banning Athlete Nominated As Star Student: Meet Marquis

Banning, California — Star Students are found in classrooms, on concert and theater stages and at debate lecterns, and out in the community doing good things to make life better for all of us.

Here at Patch, we've launched an initiative to help recognize Star Students, and we’re working to tell the stories of these outstanding kids to their neighbors.

Why do you believe the star local student should be recognized?

I believe Marquis should be recognized because he is the definition of a student athlete. He has maintained a gpa higher than a 3.5 all through his high school years, while playing multiple sports. Such as football, basketball, soccer and baseball. He is a star pitcher for Banning Highs baseball team, just recently throwing a no hitter game. He also is an active participant in ASB and helps with Banning Pass Little League.

What's one thing you want everyone to know about the star local student?

While playing in all these sports and maintaining his gpa in mainstream classes, Marquis is deaf. He wears a Cochlear Implant on his left ear and a hearing aid on his right. Despite him not being able to hear, he does not let it stop him from achieving his goals.
