BANNING, CA—This week, the city of Banning celebrated Chateau 225 Marketplace's official ribbon cutting and new mural contest. The shop is not new— it opened in 2022— The city and the chamber of commerce are heralding the good that the resale shop does for the community.

The shop, at 225 Ramsey Street in Banning, is open from 12 to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday, selling gently used antiques, vintage items, and handcrafted collectibles.

Chateau 225 Marketplace is an arm of the non-profit, Faith in Action, according to Carol Allbaugh, president of that organization. In April the shop presented its new mural, celebrating a Banning high schooler for his winning entry with a $500 prize. There were over a dozen entries for that contest, she told Patch. Muralist Cara Sache selected the winner and worked with him to create the store's new landmark painting.

The mural also calls attention to the store's reintroduction and its role as an extension of Faith in Action, providing extra funds beyond that non-profit's funding.

"It's necessary to sustain their work for the community," Allbaugh said, adding that "this is one experiment to try to get people in the door."

According to the city, the business's relationship with the non-profit in Action was to be lauded.

"What makes Chateau 225 Marketplace even more special is that all proceeds from sales are donated to Faith in Action, a non-profit dedicated to assisting low-income families and the unhoused population in the Banning area," they said over social media. "The City of Banning wishes great success to Chateau 225 Marketplace in its mission to provide affordable goods and support for the local community."
