Why: Motor vehicle crashes are a leading cause of death among children in the United States. Car seat use reduces the risk for injury in crashes by up to 82% for children, compared with seat belt use alone. Parents and caregivers can reduce the risk of serious injuries and death by making sure children are properly buckled in car seats, booster seats, and seat belts that are appropriate for their age and size.

How: Riverside University Health System – Public Health is partnering with Safe Kids Inland Empire to provide free professional car seat checkups by a nationally certified Child Passenger Safety Technician. The technician will also teach parents and caregivers how to use and install a car seat on their own. Free or low-cost booster seats may also be available upon request.
