Fees to be Waived in San Bernardino National Forest for Washington's Birthday

Perfect enticement to enjoy Monday, Feb. 20 in the great outdoors!

IDYLLWILD, CA – Visitors to the San Bernardino National Forest will be able to access any part of the preserve for free Monday in celebration of Washington's Birthday, Feb. 20.

Fee waivers will be in effect all day, in all areas of the 676,666-acre woodland, about a third of which is in Riverside County, said Gerrelaine Alcordo, a public information officer with the U.S. Forest Service.

No charges will be assessed for access to picnic areas, campgrounds, trails or visitor centers, Alcordo said.

Access to 98 percent of federally protected land is free most -- if not all -- of the time. However, a few activities require a Daily Adventure Pass, Alcordo said.

Other 2017 fee-free days are June 10 as part of National Get Outdoors Day; Sept. 30 for National Public Lands Days, the single-largest; and Nov. 11-12 as part of Veterans Days weekend.
