Freeze Warning Continues Over Pass Area

RIVERSIDE COUNTY, CA — Biting cold is forecast again overnight into Tuesday morning across much of Riverside County, prompting the National Weather Service to issue another Freeze Warning for the western reaches of the region.

The warning will be in effect from 1 a.m. to 9 a.m. Tuesday for the Riverside metro area, the San Gorgonio Pass Area and Southwest Riverside County, including Canyon Lake, Hemet, Lake Elsinore, Menifee, Murrieta, Temecula and Wildomar.

Forecasters said temperatures could fall as low as 27 degrees, particularly in the area between Hemet and Lake Elsinore.

"Frost and freeze conditions will kill crops, other sensitive vegetation and possibly damage unprotected outdoor plumbing," the NWS warned. "Take steps now to protect tender plants from the cold," the NWS advised.

"To prevent freezing and possible bursting of outdoor water pipes they should be wrapped, drained, or allowed to drip slowly. Those that have in-ground sprinkler systems should drain them and cover above-ground pipes to protect them from freezing," according to the agency.

A frost advisory will be in place from 1 a.m. to 9 a.m. Tuesday in the Coachella Valley, with temperatures possibly falling to between 30 and 35 degrees.

The cool weather was expected to continue through Tuesday, but the gusting winds that have been impacting the area were expected to weaken. A slight warming trend was anticipated by midweek.

"Another disturbance sliding south across the state will graze us on Thursday with another chance of rain and snow showers, and gusty westerly winds over the coastal waters, mountains and deserts," according to the NWS. "Aside from Thursday, fair, dry and cooler than average weather will prevail into the weekend."
