History of Old U.S. Hwy. 99 through the San Gorgonio Pass

On Thursday, April 14, at 7 p.m., the San Gorgonio Pass Historical Society will present “Old U.S. Highway 99 through the San Gorgonio Pass” with Michael Ballard, president of the Historic Highway 99 Association of California.

All are welcome at this free historical society event, which will be held at the Cherry Valley Grange, 10478 Beaumont Ave., Cherry Valley.

The visual presentation will explore the popular Highway 99 that millions of drivers traversed as they made their way across Southern California through Cabazon, Banning and Beaumont before Interstate 10 was built.

The program includes a look at both long-vanished but well-remembered locations on the route, as well as existing remnants found along the length of Main Street in Cabazon, Ramsey Street in Banning and Sixth Street in Beaumont.

In May, the historical society will present “Riding the Bradshaw Stagecoach Trail through Cherry Valley and Banning” on the evening of May 12. The society’s traveling history exhibit will be on display at the Wild West Fest at Gilman Ranch in Banning on May 21 and 22.
