Missing Hiker Last Seen In Riverside County During Heat Wave

RIVERSIDE COUNTY, CA — A 61-year-old San Diego County man hiking the Pacific Crest Trail has been missing for days, and his last known whereabouts were near a trailhead in the San Jacinto Mountains.

The Riverside County Sheriff's Department is asking for help finding Hantae Kim, a Chula Vista man who last sent photos to his family July 6 from the Fuller Ridge Trailhead area. According to authorities, he was slated to return home by July 7, but he never showed up.

His phone went silent on the morning of July 6, and he hasn't been heard from since. At the time of his disappearance, temperatures in the area soared to well over 100 degrees.

Kim was last seen wearing a gray and yellow windbreaker with a purple shirt. He was wearing Columbia shoes and a gray and blue hat. He was carrying an orange backpack, according to the sheriff's department. Kim is 5'9'' and weighs about 160 pounds.
