EASTVALE, CA — More than 80 cats impounded by Riverside County Department of Animal Services from a "possible hoarding" situation are now available for adoption or fostering, the agency announced Wednesday.

“As our shelters continue to be challenged by severe overcrowding of animals, we are urging the community to come together to give these cats hope for a new home and better life,” said Riverside County Department of Animal Services Director Erin Gettis.

The felines were recently recovered from an Eastvale apartment, according to animal services. No information about the prior owner was available.

“Due to their living conditions, most of [the cats] are shy but they are healthy and ready for a new home,” said Riverside County Department of Animal Services Assistant Director Dr. Kim Youngberg.

Most of the introverted felines will match well with extroverted cats or people who want companionship, according to Youngberg.

“Over time the cats will get to know their new owners and come out of their shell. Right now, they are adjusting to a new world that is so different from the one they knew,” Youngberg continued.

The cats are currently housed at the DAS's San Jacinto shelter, 581 S. Grand Avenue, which has been closed for adoptions. However, the shelter is expected to reopen soon, and anyone interested in giving a cat or two a home can email [email protected]
