Pass Area Youth Athletes Shining In National Events

Five local kids are taking it to a new level.

SAN GORGONIO PASS AREA, CA — Five Pass Area youth athletes are raising the bar — on a national level — in their respective sports.

Hailey Landingham, 11, of Beaumont rolled her way to the top in the Elementary B Girls Freeskating Final on July 26 at the USA Roller Skating National Championships held in Lincoln, Nebraska.

The event brings out the best roller skaters in the country with a mission is to "enable athletes to achieve sustained competitive excellence in domestic and international competitions," according to USA Roller Sports.

Four other Pass Area kids are looking to claim hardware, too, during the 2023 AAU Track and Field Junior Olympics currently underway through Aug. 5 at Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa.

Matthew Edwards, 14, Caleb Edwards, 12, Anaiah Edwards, 9 — all siblings from Beaumont — and Banning's Naveah Langford, 8, are representing 10 East Youth Conference at the event.

Matthew is the only Southern California representative for the 14 boys pentathlon multi-sport event, competing against 27 other athletes from across the country. He is also representing his hometown in the 100-meter hurdles, 200-meter hurdles, high jump, and javelin.

Anaiah is competing in the the girls triathlon, high jump, and 800-meter race. Caleb will compete in long jump.

Naveah is competing in the 8 and under 4x100 meter team with one of the fastest records in the country. She will also compete in the 800-meter race and long jump.
