BEAUMONT, CA — A semitrailer struck a Caltrans subcontractor truck overnight on the westbound side of Interstate 10 in Beaumont — resulting in a fire, closed lanes and backed up traffic, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The collision occurred around 3:45 a.m. near the Brookside Avenue over-crossing in Beaumont, police said, adding the semi, which was carrying paper goods, first struck the Caltrans vehicle then hit the median wall and became fully engulfed in flames.

CalFire was called to the scene and a Sigalert was issued shortly before 4 a.m., according to the CHP, who said no one was injured and drugs and alcohol are not suspected to be a factor.
