Thunderstorm Roars Through Banning, Beaumont

SAN GORGONIO PASS AREA, CA — A slight chance of thunderstorms on Friday?

That's what the National Weather Service predicted for Banning and Beaumont. The afternoon's dark clouds, loud clamor and lightning, however, are telling another story.

Here's what the NWS now has to say: "Any thunderstorms or heavier showers that develop should be quick-moving which will help minimize the flooding threat. Gusty winds and small hail are possible where thunderstorms develop."

Rain could fall through Saturday. Rainfall totals through early Sunday are .05-.15 inches are expected for the coast, valleys, and deserts and .25- .75 inches of liquid equivalent (snow) for the mountains, according to the NWS.

Snow levels were around 5,500 feet Friday afternoon in local mountains but could fall to 4,500 feet overnight, the NWS reported. Chains are required, according to Caltrans.
