Too Cute! Check Out These Baby Warthogs Born at The Living Desert

The zoo says parents Squiggy and Leia welcomed their piglets in late February.

Two warthog piglets are the newest additions at The Living Desert, where zoo keepers are keeping a close eye on the animals’ exhibit space to see if any more newborns emerge.

The piglets were born to parents Squiggy and Leia sometime in late February, but only recently emerged from their den. New warthogs typically remain in or close to their dens for several weeks, until their bodies are able to maintain an appropriate body temperature.

“A typical litter averages two to four piglets, so we’re excited to see if any more emerge from their den,” said Allen Monroe, president and chief executive officer of The Living Desert.
