A Winter's Day with the Gilmans, Dec. 8 with the Historical Society

The story of the pioneer Gilman family's Christmas time 100 years ago, when snow piled more than two feet high in Banning.

The Gilman family has a storied history in the San Gorgonio Pass. These pioneers are best known for the Gilman Ranch and Wagon Museum, a beautiful historically restored county park and ranch house in Banning. On Thursday, Dec. 8, step back in time and join the Gilmans on a winter's day and learn about their life and their impact on the area. Pictured is a snow-covered downtown Banning in 1917, the era of the Gilman family.

Hosted by the San Gorgonio Pass Historical Society and presented by Pat Murkland, who has studied and researched the Gilmans for years, the program begins at 7 p.m. at the Cherry Valley Grange Community Center, 10478 Beaumont Ave., Cherry Valley. Free; all are welcome, and light holiday refreshments will be served. Parking is in back of the building.

On Saturday, Dec. 10, the popular Christmas festival will be held at the Gilman Ranch, and the San Gorgonio Pass Historical Society's traveling history exhibit will be on display. The day also includes ranch house tours, stagecoach wagon rides, craft booths, food truck, and Santa and Mrs. Claus! Open 10 a.m.-4 p.m.; $5 per person or $10 per car.
