First West Nile Virus Case In Human Reported In Long Beach

There is no vaccine or specific treatment for West Nile Virus, but use DEET as an insect repellent and avoid exposure at dawn/dusk.

LONG BEACH, CA – The first case of West Nile Virus in a human this year has been confirmed in Long Beach, according to the city's health officer. Long Beach had two documented positive West Nile mosquito samples before the discovery of the West Nile case, Health Officer Dr. Anissa Davis said.

There is no vaccine or specific treatment for West Nile Virus, but residents are urged to use DEET as an insect repellent, avoiding exposure at dawn and dusk, and eliminating sources of standing water when mosquitoes bite.
