Robotics Competition Goes to College

It's great to plant a seed, watch it sprout, grow, blossom and bear fruit.

Saturday I attended the Shared Science annual FIRST LEGO League local competition.

Double the size of last years’ tournament, and now too big for St. Bart’s Youth Center where it has been held for the past several years, this years competition was held at Long Beach City College thanks to support of LBCC faculty member, and Long Beach BSA’s Troop 14 Scout Leader, Kim Hatch.

The event was attended by 16 teams! Whoo hoo! There were 4 tournament setups, and several practice boards on the side.

It’s a great location, and the large room was overflowing with excitement. I’d forgotten how infectious it could be!

I was able to check in on the Super Girlz! all girls’ team as well as the Robo Rally team, now in it’s seventh year.

Teams hailed from Walnut, Redondo Beach, Hacienda Heights and yes, even Long Beach!

Where all these youth will end up, only time will tell, but this year, for many of the youth a seed was planted.
