Note from Squigglemom: You learn something new every day. I've always thought they were brussel sprouts. WRONG! They are Brussels sprouts, named after the city where they are very popular... Brussels Belgium.

You might ask: What's the big deal about Brussels sprouts?

I don't know why I love them. I'm pretty sure I hadn't had them until I was at least 18, but probably much later.

Brussels sprouts are like little cabbages, about 1 1/2" in diameter. When you buy them frozen, they are... ok, but off of the stem? AMAZING! That is, they can be AMAZING if they are prepared right.

I happened to order them at dinner many months ago, at the Rasselbock German restaurant on Atlantic in Bixby Knolls, Long Beach. We don't go out often, my family... so it was memorable from even that perspective. I remember we'd decided to ride the bikes over there, then have a late lunch and ride back. It was nice.

We saw the Brussels sprouts on the menu and ordered them in the style desired by my son. AMAZING Squared! Months later, we went back, and ordered them again, but I was less impressed. This third time, we went back with a plan on ordering them again, in the style desired by my son. AMAZING Tripled!

Even the folks at the table (the 3 others) who didn't like Brussels sprouts truly enjoyed these Brussels sprouts.
