Berkeley Startup Among Fastest-Growing In America: New Ranking
Forget tech. This Berkeley company made the list.
BERKELEY, CA — Berkeley startup Jiminy's — a pet food company that makes dog food, dental chews and treats from insect protein — is ranked among the fastest-growing private companies in America in the 2024 Inc. 5000 list released Tuesday.
The companies on the list have experienced rapid revenue growth in recent years while navigating inflationary pressures, rising interest costs and hiring challenges from 2020 through 2023. The top 500 companies on the list had an average median three-year revenue growth rate of 1,637 percent. Together, the 5,000 companies on the list have added 874,458 jobs over the past three years.
To qualify for the ranking, companies must be U.S.-based and must have been generating revenue by March 31, 2020. Although some of the startups may have gone public or been acquired since the review period ended, the list represents companies that were private, for-profit and independent as of Dec. 31, 2023, Inc. said.
The companies must also have had minimum revenues of $100,000 for 2020 and $2 Million for 2023. See the full methodology.
Jiminy's
Jiminy's grew by 398 percent during the three years and ranked 1,304th nationally. Its products are sold online, including by subscription. The company's website extols the virtues of feeding insect protein to dogs, "With over 3X more protein than beef, 2x more iron than spinach, 10% more vitamin B12 than salmon, and all essential amino acids, insect protein is truly a superfood! In fact, it meets AAFCO requirements for dogs without any additives."
The company is at 1831 Solano Ave, Unit 851 in Berkeley.
