Gunshots Heard At UC Berkeley Campus

The shots rang out before 8 Thursday morning prompting a major response form University and City police.

BERKELEY, CA — People are being asked to avoid a large swath of the Berkeley hills Thursday morning while multiple law enforcement agencies search for a man suspected of firing a gun on the Clark Kerr campus.

University of California, Berkeley police first alerted the campus community to the shooting shortly before 8 a.m. and said people should either avoid the area, shelter in place or go into lockdown.

The area includes the Clark Kerr and Hillside campuses, as well as the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, UC Botanical Garden, Lawrence Hall of Science, Space Science Lab, Math Science Research Institute and Strawberry Canyon Recreation Area, according to UC police.

The suspect is described as a white male wearing a black shirt, black pants and a red backpack with hair that is bleached with possible red or orange highlights.
