BEVERLY HILLS, CA — Beverly Hills police will keep a watchful eye for distracted drivers this week.

On Friday, city police will conduct an operation targeted at drivers using their phones while driving. Police did not specify how the operation would be conducted.

“A driver’s focus should be on the road, not their phone,” BHPD Chief Mark Stainbrook said in a statement. “That text, phone call, email, or social media post is not worth the risk to yourself and other people on the road.”

Current traffic laws prohibit drivers from holding a phone wile operating a vehicle — whether to text, call or use an app. Doing so could result in a fine on first offense and a mark on the driver's record on second offense within 36 months.
