ALAMEDA COUNTY, CA — When times are tough, heroes emerge. We all know someone who's making a difference right now as we live through unprecedented and changing times. Here at Patch, we've launched an initiative to help recognize these heroes making a difference in their communities. We’re working to let all your neighbors know about these outstanding people and their stories. This submission comes from Debbie Kelley who nominated James and Laura Sullivan Alameda County.

Local hero’s full name James and Laura Sullivan

Local hero’s home state CA

How do you know the local hero? By being a Salvation Army board member

What does the local hero do? James and Laura work for the Salvation Army of Alameda Count

Why do you believe the local hero should be recognized or honored? When James and Laura were transferred to Alameda County, the division was in very poor fiscal shape, running in the red year in and year out. Since they came in they have not had any years in the red, but most importantly, they have instituted a nurses training program, a construction training program, expanded the child services programs and so much more! Soon, the first in the region free dental clinic will open!

What's one thing you want everyone to know about the local hero? They are the definition of selfless. Thank you for all you do, James and Laura Sullivan!
