DANVILLE, CA — A 52-year-old man led Danville police on a lengthy chase down Interstate Highway 680 to Pleasanton Friday, according to the Danville Police Department.

On Friday just before 10:30 p.m., a Danville officer attempted a traffic stop on a gray Volkswagen SUV for speeding. The car didn’t yield, initiating a pursuit that led through Danville streets and eventually onto southbound I-680 at speeds of up to 110 miles per hour, according to police. The car exited the freeway at Bernal Street in Pleasanton, and eventually collided with a center median, becoming immobile.

During a later investigation, police determined that the suspect had collided with a civilian vehicle, causing minor damage.

At the median, Pleasanton police officers arrested John Edwards, 52, of Newbury Park. Edwards was treated for minor injuries before he was booked at Martinez Detention Facility on felony hit-and-run charges.

Three days later, another police pursuit led to a suspect driving the wrong way down I-680, causing the surrounding area to be closed off. Suspect Deonte Bell, who was accused of multiple shoplifting incidents, was immobilized and taken into custody.
