Build Housing, Not Walls

Mitchell Schwartz for Mayor on the Veterans Housing Crisis

(Los Angeles) – Today Los Angeles Mayoral candidate Mitchell Schwartz, successful small businessman and longtime advocate for progressive causes, released the following statement on his proposal to end veteran homeless in Los Angeles and throughout the nation.

“We are all well-aware of the plight of homeless veterans in our cities, and particular in Los Angeles County where an estimated three to four thousand homeless veterans reside,” said Mitchell Schwartz. “Under President Obama, the Veterans Administration (VA) developed a land use plan to create 1,200 housing units for our homeless vets. But developing a plan is not the same as actually creating housing.”

“Right now, our homeless veterans need housing and the federal regulations on procurement and land use have delayed this action for years. So today, I’m calling on President Trump to authorize the VA to suspend its regulation to allow the construction of permanent housing before it’s too late for countless individuals.”
