Freeze Watch, Wind Advisory Issued For Escondido

Winds of 10 to 20 mph with gusts up to 35 mph are expected, and sub-freezing temperatures as low as 28 degrees are possible, the NWS said.

ESCONDIDO, CA — The National Weather Service has issued a freeze watch and wind advisory for Escondido.

The wind advisory will be in effect from 8 a.m. to midnight Tuesday for San Diego County's coastal areas and valleys.

West winds of 10 to 20 mph with gusts up to 35 mph are expected, according to the NWS.

Forecasters advised motorists to use extra caution when driving, especially if operating high-profile vehicles. Residents should also secure outdoor objects.

"Gusty winds could blow around unsecured objects," the NWS warned. "Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result."

The freeze watch will be in effect from 10 p.m. Wednesday until 9 a.m. Thursday for the county's valleys.

Sub-freezing temperatures as low as 28 degrees are possible, according to the NWS.

Forecasters advised residents to take steps to protect tender plants from the cold weather, as well as to prevent freezing and possible bursting of outdoor water pipes and in-ground sprinkler systems.

"Frost and freeze conditions could kill crops, other sensitive vegetation and possibly damage unprotected outdoor plumbing," the NWS warned.
