San Diego County Publishes Coronavirus Update For September 29

Received at least one shot: More than 2.47 million or 88.2% of San Diegans 12 and older are partially vaccinated.

Here is this week’s COVID-19 update from the County Health and Human Services Agency with data through Sept. 28, 2021.

Vaccination Progress:

  • Doses administered: Over 4.76 million.
  • Received at least one shot: More than 2.47 million or 88.2% of San Diegans 12 and older are partially vaccinated.
  • Fully vaccinated: Close to 2.21 million or 78.8%.
  • Boosters are now available for those who qualify at about 400 locations countywide. Information on who qualifies is available here. People with breakthrough infections should talk with their doctor about boosters as no guidance has been published by the Centers For Disease Control and Prevention.

Deaths:

  • 39 new deaths were reported since the last report on Sept. 22. The region’s total is 4,066.
  • 25 men and 14 women died between Sept. 16 and Sept. 27, 2021.
  • Five were 80 years of age or older, seven were in their 70s, 14 were in their 60s, seven were in their 50s and six were in their 40s.
  • 35 of the people who died were not fully vaccinated and four were fully vaccinated.
  • 30 had underlying medical conditions, six had medical history pending and three did not have medical conditions.

Cases, Hospitalizations, Case Rates and Testing:

  • 515 COVID-19 cases were reported to the County on Sept. 28. The region’s total is now 355,872.
  • In the past 30 days (Aug.30 to Sept. 28), there were 378 COVID-19 hospitalizations; 370 people were not fully vaccinated and 8 were fully vaccinated.
  • San Diego County’s case rate per 100,000 residents is 21.9 overall, 10.3 for fully vaccinated people and 37.9 for not fully vaccinated San Diegans.
  • 25,017 tests were reported to the County on Sept. 28, and the percentage of new positive cases was 2.1%.
  • The 14-day rolling percentage of positive cases among tests is 3.4%.

Community Setting Outbreaks:

  • 31 new community outbreaks were confirmed in the past seven days (Sept. 22 through Sept. 28): 18 in TK-12 grade school settings, four in business settings, three in daycare/preschool/childcare settings, three in government settings, one in an after-school program setting, one in a restaurant setting and one in an emergency services setting.
  • The community outbreaks trigger is more than seven in a 7-day period.
