'Summer Movies In The Park' Slated In Escondido

ESCONDIDO, CA — The "Sweet 16" season of "Summer Movies in the Park" kicks off Memorial Day weekend in San Diego County.

Presented by the county's Parks and Recreation Department, the summer series includes 150 movies at dozens of parks across the county, including in Escondido.

The celebration will start with Friday's screening of the animated comedy, "Puss in Boots: The Last Wish," at Waterfront Park in Downtown San Diego. Although the movie starts at dusk, a variety of free activities are scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. Attendees are encouraged to bring chairs and blankets for a night under the stars.

This year's schedule features theme weekends, including Juneteenth from June 16-17, Comic-Con from July 21-22, Ladies Night on Aug. 12, International Dog Day from Aug. 25-26, Hispanic Heritage Month from Sept. 15-Oct. 15, and Halloween in late October.

The lineup includes five movies at Felicita County Park in Escondido. "Cool Runnings" is scheduled June 17, "DC League of Super-Pets" is scheduled July 21, "The Super Mario Bros. Movie" is scheduled Aug. 19, "Selena" is slated Sept. 16, and " The Addams Family" is slated Oct. 14.

Movies, dates and locations are subject to change, according to the county.
