GLENDORA, CA — Longtime environmentalist Ann Croissant died June 26 at the age of 81 from complications related to lung cancer, according to a report from the San Gabriel Valley Tribune.

Croissant led the effort to preserve the endangered brodiaea plant in the San Gabriel Mountains and founded the Glendora Community Conservancy in 1991 and the San Gabriel Mountains Regional Conservancy in 1997. A longtime resident of Glendora, Croissant spent her years buying hillside property in the city for preservation, the Valley Tribune reported.

“She was the educational and environmental mother I always wanted to have. She hardly talked about herself. It was always about being there, for the environment and for other people,” Angelica González, a former conservation program manager for the Sierra Club Angeles Chapter, told the paper.
